GoPro announced that on March 25, they will unveil a completely new generation of cameras at the 2026 NAB Show running April 19-22 at Booth C5519. And we are not talking about one camera -- GoPro is teasing multiple new models.

The GP3 Processor Changes Everything

At the heart of this launch is the GP3, GoPro's next-generation imaging processor. Built on a 5-nanometer architecture, this System-on-a-Chip delivers more than double the pixel processing power of the GP2 that has powered recent GoPro models. That is a massive leap. GoPro specifically highlighted AI-driven image quality, improved low-light performance, longer runtimes, and better thermal management. If you have ever had a GoPro overheat mid-shoot on a hot day, that last point alone should have your attention.

Beyond Action Cameras

Here is what really caught our eye: GoPro is positioning these new cameras as "more professionally focused than ever before." The press materials mention larger sensors, expanded features, and compact durable form factors. There have been hints for a while now that GoPro wants to push beyond just the action camera category, and this seems to confirm it. We could be looking at vlogging cameras, compact cinema-grade systems, or something entirely new alongside the next HERO.

The fact that they chose NAB -- a broadcast and professional video trade show -- as the launch venue rather than, say, CES or a consumer electronics event tells us a lot about who GoPro is trying to reach with this generation of products.

What We Expect

We honestly have no idea. If they launch a "proper camera" or a "cinema camera" or even a mirrorless camera of any description with interchangeable lenses - camera YouTube could breakdown. Remember when Nikon bought RED?

Why This Matters for Creators

If GoPro can deliver on the promise of larger sensors and professional-grade features while keeping the compact, rugged form factor that made them famous, they could carve out a genuinely unique space. Think about it: a pocketable camera that can handle low-light, shoot high-resolution video, and survive a rainstorm. That is something neither your phone nor a traditional cinema camera can offer.
