Christopher Nolan's grounded reimagining of Batman follows Bruce Wayne from traumatic origin to costumed vigilante. Wally Pfister's cinematography drew from Blade Runner as a tonal reference, using deep shadows and fog to create a noir aesthetic. Production designer Nathan Crowley built the Batmobile from Lamborghini and Hummer toy kits in Nolan's garage, while the full-scale Gotham sets at Cardington combined architectural influences from New York, Chicago, and Tokyo. Nolan eschewed second units entirely, insisting on directing every shot himself including all action and vehicle sequences.
