So this is going to be short and to the point, with as much practical information as possible, coming from people that have done this for multiple years.
Create 50 Ideas and Store Them Somewhere
You don’t need project management software or some special creator app. You can open up the default note taking app on your phone (this post is being written in Apple Notes first before being uploaded to our website), and just add 50 bullet point ideas. They don’t have to be good or bad, just 50 things you would like to create.
If you want something a bit more special than notes app, try Google Sheets (free) or Airtable (free + cost) so you can have a bit more structure.
Assign Dates For Creation & Posting
Now you have your ideas down, have a look at your calendar app and schedule in time to actually create the idea. Why the calendar app? Because you can assign dates and times, a little notification pops up before the actual time to remind you as well, and most importantly, it will prevent yourself from double booking. You don’t want anything to get in the way of the time you have identified as creation time.
If you are doing something that requires post production (editing photos or video for example), book in a separate time in the calendar for that too. Don’t try to trick yourself into including both in one session - it never works. Trust us.
Another little trick is not to worry about posting straight away, but give it a day or two. Why? So you can come back and give it some fresh eyes and make any quick, small edits that are related to grammar or edits that didn’t look right. We are not actually changing the content here, we are just double checking for little things.
Once you have done that, then is the time to go and post and move on with the rest of your day.
Don’t Buy Any New Tools
Resist the urge to spend money just at this point in time. Look at the tools you have and get the most out of them. Your current phone - fine. Your current laptop or tablet - fine. The software you already have - fine.
If you are missing something, there are generally free alternatives to everything. Can’t afford Photoshop? There are plenty of good free alternatives available (stay tuned for future post). Don’t have a 4K camera? That’s ok too, your phone is plenty good enough.
As soon as you start to build a following, as well as earning some income, then you can look to upgrade your tools. The skills you learn in the meantime will also be transferable as well.
Balance Your Time
There are only 24hrs in a day, and you should be sleeping for at least 6-7 of them, so you are really left with about 17 hours of awake. The normal general work day at a normal job is about 8hrs (depending on where you live), and so that doesn’t really leave much time. So be reasonable and budget about 1hr a day of creation to start and go from there.
Now these are just some tips and suggestions of ours, it’s helped us to stay focused and on track. Hopefully it can help you as well get started on your journey. Once you start to get a bit of traction, we will be posting other articles to help you take the next step in moving into becoming a full time creator.
