2024 saw the release of some cameras that pushed forward, some that were remixes of other cameras already on the market, and a couple of nice surprises. We are going to focus on the mirrorless cameras in this post, but you can find the breakdown of other camera types at the end of this post.

Sony A1 II

  • Release Date: February 20, 2024
  • General Consensus: Sony’s flagship mirrorless camera wowed reviewers with its 50.1MP sensor, 8K video, and blazing 30 fps continuous shooting. Professionals hailed it as a "no-compromise" solution for both stills and video. However, some noted that the minor improvements over the original A1 might not justify an upgrade for current owners.

March 2024 Mirrorless Camera Releases

Fujifilm X-M5

  • Release Date: March 10, 2024
  • General Consensus: This compact APS-C camera targeted vloggers and hybrid shooters. Its 26.1MP sensor and 6.2K video were well-received, but the lack of weather sealing and slightly limited battery life drew mild criticism.

May 2024 Mirrorless Camera Releases

Panasonic Lumix G9 II

  • Release Date: May 15, 2024
  • General Consensus: A Micro Four Thirds camera aimed at wildlife and sports photographers, the G9 II delivered fast performance and excellent stabilization. While its small sensor size limited its low-light capabilities, enthusiasts appreciated its portability and price.

June 2024 Mirrorless Camera Releases

Canon EOS R1

  • Release Date: June 5, 2024
  • General Consensus: Canon’s long-awaited flagship was met with glowing reviews. Its 24.2MP sensor and 40 fps continuous shooting set a new standard for sports and wildlife photography. The hefty price tag and size were its only real drawbacks.

August 2024 Mirrorless Camera Releases

Sony α9 III

  • Release Date: August 10, 2024
  • General Consensus: This high-speed camera impressed professionals with its global shutter technology and 120 fps burst mode. Sports and action photographers loved its reliability, though some felt it was more niche compared to Sony’s other offerings.

Nikon Z6 III

  • Release Date: August 25, 2024
  • General Consensus: The third iteration of Nikon’s popular Z6 series introduced a faster processor and 6K video. Critics appreciated the improved autofocus but felt the upgrades were incremental.

October 2024 Mirrorless Camera Releases

Fujifilm X100VI

  • Release Date: October 15, 2024
  • General Consensus: A fan-favorite, the X100VI impressed with its 40MP sensor and improved image stabilization. Street photographers adored its compact design and classic aesthetics, though some wished for more significant changes over the X100V.

So which ones were our favourites? Oooooo tough, I would say there are no bad cameras but I definitely would take the X100VI for casual street photography, travel and family snaps and then probably the Nikon Z6III for professional work now that you can get the RED LUTs with N-Log.
