Created by Christopher Storer, The Bear follows Carmen 'Carmy' Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), a young fine-dining chef who returns to Chicago to run his family's chaotic Italian beef sandwich shop after his brother's death, navigating grief, ambition, and the brutal pressure of a struggling restaurant kitchen. Production designer Merje Veski built a fully functional kitchen set at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios where every stove, oven, refrigerator and appliance actually works, initially replicating the real Mr. Beef restaurant before transforming it into the fine-dining restaurant 'The Bear' across Season 2. Cinematographer Andrew Wehde (who took over from pilot DP Adam Newport-Berra) shoots entirely handheld with Panavision lenses, using a B camera on an 11:1 Primo zoom to capture chaotic kitchen energy in long unbroken takes. Culinary producer Courtney Storer (the creator's sister) and chef/actor Matty Matheson ensure every dish and kitchen movement is authentic, with the entire cast undergoing intensive culinary training. The show has won multiple Emmy Awards across its run.
