This Privacy Policy explains how Lets Make Pixels ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards information when you visit letsmakepixels.com (the "Site"). By using the Site, you agree to the practices described below. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. Who we are

Lets Make Pixels is an independent publication covering videography, photography, art and design, and video game news, along with behind-the-scenes resources for film and television production. You can contact us at hi@letsmakepixels.com for any privacy-related questions or requests.

2. Information we collect

We collect two broad categories of information:

Information you give us directly. If you sign up for a newsletter, leave a comment, send us an email, or fill in a contact form, you may provide personal data such as your name, email address, and the contents of your message.

Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, our hosting provider, analytics tools, and advertising partners automatically receive certain technical information. This includes your IP address, approximate location derived from that IP address, device and browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages viewed, time spent on pages, and the date and time of your visit. This information is collected through server logs, cookies, and similar tracking technologies such as web beacons and local storage.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information (such as government identifiers, financial account numbers, or health data) through the Site.

3. How we use information

We use the information we collect to operate and improve the Site, to respond to messages you send us, to measure audience and content performance, to serve relevant advertising, to detect and prevent fraud and abuse, and to comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information for money.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

The Site uses cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences, measure traffic, and deliver advertising. Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. Some cookies are strictly necessary for the Site to function, while others are used for analytics or advertising and will only be set if permitted by the consent controls shown on the Site (where applicable in your region).

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may limit some features of the Site. For general guidance on cookies you can visit allaboutcookies.org.

5. Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors interact with the Site. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar identifiers to collect information such as your IP address (typically truncated for anonymisation), pages visited, session duration, and device information. This information is transmitted to and stored by Google on servers that may be located outside your country of residence.

We use this data only in aggregate form to analyse traffic trends and improve content. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or by using your browser's cookie controls. More information about how Google uses data is available at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

6. Google AdSense and third-party advertising

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on the Site. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies — including the DoubleClick DART cookie — to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Site and other sites on the Internet. Third-party vendors and ad networks may also use cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies to collect information about your activities on this and other websites in order to provide personalised advertising.

Specifically, Google and its partners may collect and process: your IP address, device identifiers, browser information, ad interactions, and inferred interests. Google may use this data to show personalised or non-personalised ads depending on your settings and jurisdiction.

You can learn how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or, for participating vendors, at youradchoices.com (US), youronlinechoices.eu (EU), or networkadvertising.org.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR to process your personal data: your consent for non-essential cookies, analytics, and personalised advertising; our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the Site; performance of a contract when you request a service from us; and compliance with a legal obligation where required.

You may withdraw consent at any time through the cookie controls on the Site or by contacting us. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data: the right to access the information we hold about you, the right to correct inaccurate data, the right to request deletion, the right to object to or restrict certain processing, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to request deletion, the right to correct inaccurate information, and the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information as those terms are defined under California law. We do not sell personal information for money, but the use of advertising cookies may qualify as "sharing" under the CPRA; you may opt out using the mechanisms described in Section 6 or by contacting us.

To exercise any of these rights, email hi@letsmakepixels.com with the subject line "Privacy Request". We may need to verify your identity before responding.

9. Data retention

We retain personal information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this policy, to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Analytics data is retained according to the settings configured in Google Analytics (typically 14 months by default). Email correspondence is retained only as long as reasonably needed to address your query.

10. International transfers

Because we use cloud-based services such as Google, your information may be processed in countries outside your own, including the United States. Where such transfers occur from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we rely on safeguards such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses to protect your data.

11. Children's privacy

The Site is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in parts of Europe), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

12. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information we hold against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure, and alteration. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

The Site may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. Significant changes will be highlighted on the Site or communicated by other reasonable means. Your continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
